Flexible Squares

A help community for the style can now be found at [info]s2flexisquares.

I started writing an S2 style because I wanted a layout that could be easily modified by using CSS, and I eventually ended up with this. The layout can be changed quite a lot by overriding or extending the stylesheet. I also wanted something that could be easily customised using the wizard as well, especially when it came to colours.

At the moment, there isn't much stuff in the sidebar, but I'm sure those can be added later.

This is lovely. And you have userpic keywords! (I know, a random thing to mention; but so few people put them in, and I like them.)

I completely refused to use the style until I managed to figure out how to include the keywords. I'm glad to see that someone else appreciates that as well. :)

Meep, probably should have asked this earlier, but may I use this?

You're very much welcome to. I'm glad you liked it that much. :)

Just, er, tell me if it acts buggy or something. It hasn't been debugged all that much. ^^;;

This style is very soothing to me for some reason. I love how you have a lot of different colors but they almost blend together in the boxes. :)

This is a very pretty style, and I really like it. There's a problem, though. You've got your DOCTYPE declaration inside the <head> tag, which is not valid. You're also declaring HTML 4.01 Transitional but then using the HTML 4.01 Loose DTD.

[info]cyrnelle

April 12 2005, 17:07:07 UTC 7 years ago

Erk, that's a pretty silly mistake to make, even for me. Thanks for pointing that out. I've fixed the doctype declaration -- it's now HTML 4.01 Transitional. And apparently it's not a valid HTML 4.01 Transitional document either -- I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't try validating it earlier. I'll try looking into it a bit later.

Thanks again.

This style is so lovely that I dug through the FAQ to find out how I could use it. Heh. I think I might have gotten it wrong, as I did the whole Download/Copy/Create New Layer Over and Over thing, and there might be an easier way to do it. But in any case, this is absolutely gorgeous, and I hope you don't mind my using it as well. If you do, feel free to let me know, and I'd be perfectly willing to take it down, as the style is yours, after all.

Thanks so much. You did a great job with it.

Hmmm, no idea if it's just my browser being buggy, but I'm on IE6, and when I changed the font to Trebuchet MS and scrolled down, I'd get these horizontal lines across the entry boxes that are the same colour as the "Background color for box containing the main contents of the page." They would only disappear if I switched to another window, then returned. Could be just me (I changed back to Verdana and the problem is gone), but I thought I'd mention it anyway. It happened on both my recent entries and my friends pages.

Oh wow, this looks so lovely. I'm totally using it now, lol.

One little question -- is there any difference between the Fresh Paint and Icy Blue themes? I can't seem to see any.

I REALLY like this one! However, I just have one wish.. I wish it was a 3 column design. Very nice though!

I just wanted to let you know that I LOVE this layout and I'm using it right now. :D I abandoned the layout that I've had since 2002 (an S1 layout at that) to use yours, so that should tell you how much I adore it. :D

I just have one question. Is there any way to turn OFF the sidebar feature? Since I've been using my customized layout for so long, I'm not accusomed to having anything on the side and I'm not sure how much I like it.

[info]cyrnelle

April 15 2005, 01:50:17 UTC 7 years ago

Go to the "Presentation" tab in the wizard, and for "Show the sidebar?" override the default and select "No". :)

i like this a lot, but in my opera browser the entry box shows up on top (in front) of the userpic. (ie, you can only see the upper third and a small bit of the left side of the icon.)

[info]cyrnelle

April 15 2005, 02:18:09 UTC 7 years ago

You mean the userpic of the poster, not the one on the sidebar, right? I'm sorry; the layout was optimised for Firefox and I did try to make sure things were working in IE, but that was as far as I got --- I didn't check how it displays in other browsers. *hangs head in shame*

Thanks for telling me about it. I'll try to fix it once I get to a computer with Opera. It probably will take some time, though.

This layout is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. I'll definitely be using it either now or in the future. Nice work!

If I can figure out how to stick a header image up top I'd be in heaven right now. I cannot live without my header ;)

This is a really nice layout - well done you! I'd like to use it even if the votes don't go your way, but I'm a bit of a dunderhead about that kind of thing, so will wait and see if you win first :-)

Great layout. Great use of layers and boxes -- especially the user icon. One problem I have on my browser (Mozilla): the user pic is covering the title and the date ... it might just be me.

Eureka!

I love this style and its versatality. I was just playing with my LiveJournal to try and find the right layout for it -- and now I find out the perfect one has already been made! May I use this style as well?

Re: Eureka!

Yes, of course you can use it. And everyone else can too, if they really, really want to. There's no need to ask for my permission, really. :)
