This is a CSS based layout. There are lots of options to fiddle around with in the wizard, which is both good and bad because it is kind of overwhelming. The components in the sidebar can be added, removed, and reordered as needed. One of the more interesting things about this layout is the sidebar. There is an option to remove the sidebar in the individual entry page. Also, I put in the option to remove the sidebar from specific friends groups, which is useful for communities that post a lot of huge graphics without a cut (the sidebar just cuts into everything). What's not customizable are the little icons that are next to the entry metadata.Preview Links:Recent EntriesFriendsArchiveEntry pageLayer BrowseScreenshot:( Read more...Collapse )

You're welcome. I just wanted to let you know I've updated the code quite a bit, added in some more options etc. Please let me know if I broke anything!

This may seem daft, but I can't seem to find where I put in the test etc for the "Other Box"
I have gone through the customization page, I can rename it etc, but can't find anywhere to type in what I want to put in their.
Probably overlooking something
By the way the style is awesome, I voted for it :)

Re: Other Box
You're not overlooking anything. There isn't any text box available in the customization wizard. That was supposed to be overridden in a theme layer, like when you add additional components in the Component style. I forgot that I could add it to the customization wizard!
You could create a theme layer for the style though, and then paste the following in the layer:
Put whatever you want here
Then you replace the stuff in bold to whatever text you want.
I like how it looks like it combines Component and Boxer.
I really love this theme. But I do have a question -- you can remove all the boxes from the sidebar on the recent page, but I don't seem to be able to reclaim the space. Is there a way to do this?

There is another option you have to change to remove the sidebar completely - but that's only for the friends page right now. I'll have to add another option to remove the sidebar from the recent page, too.
It's ridiculous that this isn't one of the winners. Please keep it public, it's an awesome awesome layout.

Thanks! I am going to be keeping it public, I'm really flattered that people like the style.

I was pretty shocked this didn't win, but I have used it anyway with a few color updates . . . I just heard you did updates, so next week I'll have to see how those work!

It's good you managed to find out about the updates - there were a lot, and I didn't know how to contact everyone using the style. :)
Just wanted to drop a note to let you know I'm using this theme, and I love it. I wish it had won.

Thanks! I updated the code by the way, and it looks like you're using the older code, so do copy the new code when you can. :)
I found this community through a member of another community I'm in...
I love, love, love this style! If I had the time to figure out the whole S2 system and create styles, this is just about exactly what I would want. I've been using the same style since I got a paid account (component), and this is perfect!!
Thanks for your hard work!

:) I like the colour scheme you're using.
All right, I know the contest has been over for a while, but I have to ask because it's driving me bonkers:
What does "transmogrified" mean?
The word transmogrify
means "To change into a different shape or form, especially one that is fantastic or bizarre". I got the word from a comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes
. My thinking was that every single page is written in some ugly looking HTML. But with this style, you can make it look pretty on the screen, and, with all the options, you can transform it into any look you want. :)
nice style.. i am using it.. neat.. but i have no idea on how to go about doing a style.. i mean i am a total novice with that.. i dont want to sound stupid but would you mind telling me the basic stuff on doing a style....
The best place to start with learning about styles is to read the FAQ
. Since you have a free account I think using the S1 style is easier to customize (you can't use my style by the way, because you need a paid account). The community howto
has a lot of useful tutorials, and there are lots more communities that discuss styles (override_helper
, etc). I hope that helps you a bit!

Wonderful design job!
lovely style -- had I been on LJ when the voting was happening, it would definitely have had my vote. The C&H is pure bonus. :) I've chosen this style and really love it. It's completely configurable. I appreciate that. Thank you for all the hard work you've done on this.
How do you change the theme?
